Le Nu Thuy Duong, entrepreneur: Preserving and inheriting the family business through three criteria of prestige, duty, and sharing

DNHN - As the daughter of Labor Hero Le Van Kiem and Tran Cam Nhung, creator of Golf Long Thanh, businessman Le Nu Thuy Duong has received the family's good traditions and the quintessence of that parent, which is thinking, energy, morality, and kindness, from an early age.

After studying business administration in Australia and entering the family firm in the late 1990s, Thuy Duong began as an assistant and was quickly rotated among several departments such as investment, legal, finance, and, most importantly, business.

The experience of working in a variety of divisions enables this female employee born in 1976 to maintain a sense of perspective, bridging the divide between school knowledge and work reality. Since 2007, Mr Kiem's family has formed joint ventures with a few overseas partners, providing an opportunity for the second generation to learn and gain expertise.

Due to the land fund established in the 1990s, they formed a joint venture with CapitaLand in 2007 to create The Vista project. Buyers must queue from early morning to deposit Vista apartments, which were launched at the peak of the real estate fervour. According to Ms Thuy Duong, the company chose a foreign partner because it had "sufficient technology and experience in constructing high-end residential products" at the time, while the partner chose Mr Kiem's family company because of the projects' "prestige and location."

"When I was a teenager, my parents instilled in me a sense of independence through studying, living, and approaching work. They also instilled in me an appreciation for independent work, creative thinking, and spirit "Ms Duong discussed how to train and coach employees through the work of the company's founding generation. "I learned about thinking and strategic vision from my father. Concerning her mother, the meticulousness with which she works and her proximity to the personnel, "Ms Duong continued.

Not only does Thuy Duong work in the family firm, but she also participates in a variety of activities in other organizations, earning valuable management experience. Ms Thuy Duong joined the FPT Board of Directors in 2012, representing the capital contribution of Orchard Vehicle, billionaire Richard Chandler's investment fund. Thuy Duong resigned as a member of the FPT Board of Directors in mid-2014 after Orchard Fund was divested from the company.

Joining the FPT Board of Directors, Ms Duong explains, enables her to "better grasp how public firms operate and manage inside the system." Thuy Duong studied while defining "knowledge as the foundation for carefully applying it to work." Thuy Duong attended the Asian Institute of Technology's (AIT) doctoral training program in 2007 after earning her master's degree from the Maastricht School of the Netherlands in 2003. She identified the most significant barrier to transfer as the transition from family-style management to professional system-based management.

She has gradually inherited the family firm in recent years, taking over several significant investment initiatives at Golf Long Thanh and its member companies. Under her leadership, the organization expanded and accomplished numerous remarkable achievements.

The Vista An Phu is the first project created by Le Nu Thuy Duong and CapitaLand. Additionally, the Dragon entrepreneur serves as Director of Thien Duc Construction and Trading Company Limited, a Capital Land partner in the district 2 real estate projects The Vista, Vista Verde, and The Feliz en Vista. CapitaLand and Thien Duc developed the Vista Verde project, a housing development in the centre of District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. The project consists of four buildings with a total of 1,152 apartments and stunning views of the Saigon River, Phu My Bridge, and the city.

According to her, the company's 40-year evolution has been one of striving and establishing the prestige of individuals, families, and businesses. "For me, there are three critical characteristics of a family business that each generation must retain and inherit: prestige, responsibility, and sharing," Thuy Duong stated.

In the years 2020-2021, despite the ongoing challenges of the Covid-19 outbreak, billionaire Le Nu Thuy Duong has led the company to overcome obstacles and efficiently complete large-scale projects.

She and Cam Ranh KN Company have made several contributions to charity projects, cultural and social events over the last three years: Donating 1000 smartphones to disadvantaged children for online learning; sponsoring the Fund for Supporting and Developing Vietnamese Students and supporting the Vietnam Student Association's scientific research activities for a total of 20 billion VND...
