Lao Cai Sees a 27% Increase in Visitors During the 3-Day New Year Holiday

DNHN - Key tourist destinations in Lao Cai attracted a large number of visitors. Sa Pa town received the highest number of visitors, with approximately 85,400 arrivals.
During the 3-day New Year holiday in 2024, the tourism industry in Lao Cai recorded positive growth. It is estimated that around 155,600 visitors came to Lao Cai, an increase of 27% compared to the same period in 2023. Domestic tourists accounted for the majority, with 135,100 arrivals, while international visitors reached 20,500. Total revenue from tourism reached 467 billion VND, a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2023 (429 billion VND).
Key tourist destinations in Lao Cai attracted a large number of visitors. Sa Pa town received the highest number of visitors, with approximately 85,400 arrivals. Notably, Sun World Fansipan Legend Tourist Area in Sa Pa welcomed 19,800 visitors from December 30, 2023, to 10:00 AM on January 1, 2024. Other destinations included Lao Cai City, Bac Ha District, Bat Xat District, and Bao Yen District.

The hotel room occupancy rate in the province was estimated to be around 75%, while in the Sa Pa National Tourist Area, the rate could reach 90-95%. For high-end hotels (3-5 stars), the occupancy rate was estimated to be around 95%. Other accommodation establishments, including hotels, guesthouses, and homestays, achieved an occupancy rate of around 70%. During the holiday, accommodation establishments strictly followed legal regulations and did not increase service prices.
Thanks to thorough preparation and early forecasting of the surge in visitors, the Lao Cai Department of Tourism proactively advised the provincial People’s Committee to ensure the safety of tourism activities. Functional forces and the local community actively supported maintaining security, order, and traffic flow, contributing to a smooth and safe tourism experience.
