Internationally, rice exports from Vietnam are increasing by 28%

DNHN - In the first half of July, Vietnam's rice export industry continued to demonstrate its resilience in the face of adversity by posting a 28% increase.

According to preliminary data from the General Department of Customs, the country exported a total of 249,273 tonnes of rice with a total value of $135.45 million between July 1 and July 15.

Not only is the quantity of Vietnamese rice remarkable, but its popularity on the international market continues to rise. In general, from the start of the year to July 15, the total volume of exports has exceeded 4.48 million tonnes, generating a revenue of nearly USD 2.4 billion. The good news is that compared to the same period last year, the volume and value of rice exported increased by 17% and 28%, respectively.

Notably, turnover has increased more rapidly than volume, so the average value of each tonne of rice exported this year is significantly greater than it was during the same period in 2022. This demonstrates the high quality and market value of Vietnamese rice products abroad. During the period from the beginning of the year to July 15, the average price was over 530 USD per tonne, whereas it was only nearly 490 USD per tonne during the same period last year.

Vietnam's three largest export markets are located in Asia, specifically the Philippines, China, and Indonesia. The export volume for the first six months was 1,698,593 tonnes and 857,7 million USD; 677,387 tonnes and 390.6 million USD; and 492,801 tonnes and 244 million USD. All of these markets have experienced growth since the same time last year.

According to the Vietnam Food Association, the rice export industry encountered the most favorable conditions this year. Businesses' efforts in expanding markets and the revival of export activities result in success. Rice production has achieved great success when the structure of rice varieties is highly variable and yield is high. The import demand from traditional markets has increased dramatically, and Vietnamese rice has also penetrated new markets, such as Indonesia and several African nations.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Import-Export Department, stated that despite difficulties in commodity exports in general, rice exports maintained a strong upward trend. This is a very positive outcome that demonstrates the perseverance and unrelenting efforts of businesses to expand their markets and increase their export activities.

With the current global rice export situation and projections for the past six months, as well as the continuing rise in rice prices, the export target of approximately 7.2 million tonnes of rice, totaling more than USD 4 billion, is well within reach. This will set a new record for rice exports from Vietnam.

In addition to exporting rice, the agricultural sector prioritizes ensuring food security and consuming all of the rice required by the population.
