According to data from the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Vietnam's chilli exports in August of this year totaled 545 tonnes with a turnover of $0.9 million USD, a decrease of 31.3% in volume compared to July.

In the first eight months of the year, Vietnam exported a total of 8,296 tonnes of chilli and earned more than $15.7 million, a 136.2% increase compared to the same period in 2022. In the first eight months of the year, China and Laos were the two largest markets for Vietnam's chilli exports, accounting for 81.9% and 7.9%, or 7,393 tonnes and 653 tonnes, respectively. It is estimated that Vietnam will export 4,904 tonnes of chilli worth up to $11.9 million USD in 2022.

There are approximately 19,89 million hectares of chili-growing land in the world at present. Domestic chilli prices range from 22,000 to 28,000 VND per kilogramme. In 2020, the global production of chilli peppers, including hot peppers, green peppers, and bell peppers, was approximately 60 million tonnes. Asia is currently the world's largest chili-producing region, accounting for 80% of global production. In addition, the global chilli trade is worth approximately $35 billion per year, which is comparable to that of coffee and tea.
