DNHN - Ho Chi Minh City Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDBank, stock code: HDB) has made a significant mark on its journey toward green and sustainable development by winning the prestigious "Best Green Financing in Vietnam" award.
The Asian Banker Vietnam Excellence Awards 2024 is one of the most prestigious and rigorous award programs in the finance and banking sector in the Asia-Pacific region. This program recognizes outstanding achievements and innovations in retail finance, green finance, technology, and banking services tied to sustainable development goals.
As a category within The Asian Banker Awards program, with sustainable finance initiatives as the top criteria for evaluation and selection, the "Best Green Financing in Vietnam" award was presented to HDBank by The Asian Banker—a globally renowned organization. This award acknowledges the bank's efforts and comprehensive achievements in recent years, particularly in its sustainable development goals with stakeholders.
In Vietnam, since 2015, HDBank has been one of the first commercial banks to implement an environmental and social risk assessment system in credit granting. It has pioneered the promotion of green credit, with hundreds of millions of USD in recent years allocated to renewable energy projects, organic agriculture projects in the Mekong Delta, and green and environmentally friendly transformation projects across the country.
HDBank is also the first bank in Vietnam to pioneer the issuance of a Sustainable Development Report in 2024 and the first bank in Vietnam to establish an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee under the Board of Directors to directly lead and supervise the implementation of sustainability goals and initiatives.
According to an HDBank representative, the "Best Green Financing in Vietnam" award continues to affirm HDBank's correct vision in its goal of developing into a leading commercial bank in Vietnam with international integration, aligned with its responsibility for sustainable development alongside the community and society. Green finance is a key focus that HDBank promotes, alongside its strengths in developing financial solutions and products for the agriculture and rural sectors, SME businesses, supply chain financing, retail, and consumer finance.
Along with The Asian Banker, many other prestigious international organizations have recognized HDBank's efforts and achievements in sustainable development in recent years. These include the "Green Deal Award" in the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) global trade finance program in 2019, The Asset Triple A Awards for Best Bank for Sustainable Finance in 2022, and the "Sustainability Initiative of the Year" award from The Asian Banking and Finance (ABF) in 2023…
