Currently, the use of renewable energy helps mitigate the negative impacts on the environment compared to fossil fuel energy. Electricity from renewable sources such as wind, water, solar, and geothermal energy does not produce greenhouse gases or other pollutants. By transitioning to renewable energy, Vietnam can reduce carbon dioxide emissions, dependence on fossil fuels, help control climate change, and decrease air pollution.

Developing renewable energy enhances the diversification of a nation's or region's energy supply. Over-reliance on fossil fuels can pose significant risks to the economy and energy security. By investing in various renewable energy sources like wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal, we can reduce dependency on a single supply source and create a more complex and stable energy model.

The development of renewable energy generates numerous job opportunities and fosters economic growth. The renewable energy industry demands both intellectual and technical labor, from scientists and engineers to construction workers and technicians. Creating new renewable energy projects not only generates direct employment but also stimulates supporting industries such as renewable energy equipment manufacturing, transportation, and installation. This contributes to creating a diverse supply chain and promoting sustainable economic development.

Renewable energy is becoming increasingly economical and competitive with traditional energy sources. Advances in technology and increased production scale have helped reduce the cost of renewable energy systems such as solar and wind power. This means Vietnam can save on energy costs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, promoting renewable energy development fosters competition and choice in the energy market, creating a favorable environment for innovation and technological development.

Enhancing renewable energy development is not only an economic issue but also a commitment to a sustainable future. Using renewable energy sources helps protect the environment and create an energy system that does not harm natural resources and human health. At the same time, it plays a crucial role in building a fairer and more equitable world, where everyone has the opportunity to access and use energy in a fair and sustainable manner.

Thus, enhancing renewable energy development with a new vision is a significant step that brings numerous economic, environmental, and social benefits, from mitigating negative environmental impacts, diversifying energy supply, creating many job opportunities and economic development, reducing costs, and increasing competitiveness, to building a sustainable future.

At the COP28 Conference in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) in December 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh strongly committed to Vietnam's efforts to combat climate change. In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for unified global action and the responsibility of each nation combined with the strength of international solidarity.

The head of the Vietnamese government also highlighted the importance of turning commitments from previous conferences into concrete actions, stressing that developed countries need to support developing countries in terms of finance, technology, and human resource training for an effective and sustainable green transition.

At this event, the Prime Minister also announced the Resource Mobilization Plan for the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with a group of international partners, including the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. These partners committed to mobilizing an initial 15.5 billion USD over the next 3-5 years to support Vietnam's just energy transition.

The Prime Minister's strong message at COP28 and Vietnam's actions left a positive impression on the international community, demonstrating Vietnam's responsibility and strong commitment to addressing one of the greatest global challenges today—climate change.
