DNHN - On the morning of March 18, in An Giang, the Ministry Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Sierra Leone Abu Bakarr Karim and Mr Do Thanh Nhan - Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Angimex) signed a memorandum of understanding on export contracts million tons of rice for Sierra Leone in 3 years.
The cooperation agreement was signed in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sierra Leone (June 24, 1982 – June 24, 2022) and the first exchange of delegations. This is an occasion to commemorate not just Angimex's complete cooperation with the Republic of Sierra Leone, but also the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Sierra Leone.
According to the content of the memorandum, An Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company will provide Sierra Leone with 3 million tons of rice in 3 years, thereby gradually expanding the rice export market to countries in West Africa in the future
A Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company will transmit the model field to Sierra Leonean firms as part of the agreement. Angimex's initial success factor in ensuring high-quality input rice is the sample field. Expansion of the large sample field is one approach for increasing the export value of rice under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's policy. When farmers participate in the large sample field model, they bring high-yielding, high-quality rice varieties to seed alongside the same variety in the same field.
Thus, the concept of high-quality rice production combined with the establishment of huge fields provides farmers with practical benefits ranging from an altered production tion mindset to increased economic efficiency. To further improve the quality of rice seeds in the future, Angimex will expand its agricultural services to farmers, assisting them in reducing costs associated with variety selection, planting, and harvesting. Additionally, Angimex maintains a staff of seasoned agriculture specialists who are prepared to impart planting techniques to farmers and answer questions throughout the farming process.
Sharing about the cooperation agreement, Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company Do Thanh Nhan said that the company is a member of Louis Holdings Group - one of the leading enterprises in Vietnam in the field of food, agricultural materials, trade and service... with the main product being rice.
Angimex's primary concentration is on rice, high-tech agriculture, and agricultural value-added goods. This is the first unit approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade according to the Government's Decree 109 in 2011 regarding the eligibility for rice export business. Over more than 45 years of business and development, rice products from the company have been exported to more than 50 nations worldwide.
Angimex was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as a notable export enterprise in 2020. Angimex entered the top three rice exporters in Vietnam in 2021. By 2022, Angimex intends for rice processing units to have a combined capacity of up to 1 million tons per year.
Mr Do Thanh Nhan emphasized:” Angimex anticipates a three-year MOU with Sierra Leone to export 3 million tonnes of rice as a springboard for larger contracts in West Africa as neighbouring countries assess the company's size and capabilities. Angimex's long-term development objective is to become the market leader in rice exports and to dominate the domestic rice market”.
The official visit to Vietnam by the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio and his wife is the first exchange of delegations of the two countries; at the same time, it is a positive and good development step between the two countries in the context of African countries; in which Sierra Leone attaches great importance to establishing and developing cooperative relations with countries in the Asia - Pacific region, including Vietnam.
